Erratic Idling or Over Heating;

Hyper Engine Problems such, as erractic idling or over heating, are usually caused by air leaks at the base of the carb or backplate. To fix this, simply remove the carb or backplate, wipe clean and use automotive gasket sealent (the black stuff). Apply a thin bead of the sealant around the carb base "o" ring and put the carb back into the air intake bore. Push down on the carb whilst tightening the securing screw. If this does not fix the problem, then check your fuel tank or fuel lines as it almost certainly has an airleak.

Recoil starter;

The starter on this engine is pretty strong and durable but if you have ripped the T handle off from the string or broken the string it can be repaired but is tricky and not a 5 minute job in some cases. But it's worth trying to fix it instead of buying a whole new unit. It involves removing the starter unit and recoiling the spring. Using your fingers you have to puch the spring around inside the casing whilst holding it down firmly as to not let it go. If you have broken the string, repair that part first by using waxed rope (eg lawn mower rip cord or builders line) cut it to length and rap it around the outside of the recoil unit. After you have done the spring and the rope if needed, you need to get the end of the spring central onto the recoil unit. Move it around by lifting up and pushing down until it clicks in. Before putting the string through the hole, turn the recoil unit around on the spring the opposite way to the recoil action to give it an initial tension. Then thread the string through the hole and re-tie the T handle and silicon tubing onto the string. Glue the tied knot into the T handle.

Glowplug Choice;

The glow plug for the hyper really does make a difference. I started by using OS no8's in mine but found it had a bog in the middle of the band. To fix this, install a Mycoy's 59 or another Hot plug. The hyper likes to run hot to build power.

Pull start slip;

The pullstart may begin to slip over time on every engine. To clean the oneway bearing use nitro wash or de-natured alchol. Wash the bearing through thoroughly with the alchol and then dry off. Re-oil with afte-run oil and re-install.

Stripped engine head bolt;

If you have done this by overtightening then fortunatly the hyper threads go down deeper into the block than the original bolts go. So you need to find a longer m3 bolt to fit.

Carb Settings;

An intial setup guide can be found in the general section under various. The carb on the hyper is very weird indeed. Every engine i've seen runs at different settings even though their on the same fuel. Tuning for power you should start at about 2 1/2 turns out on the high and work your way in by 1/8th turns at a time, do not go below 1 1/2 turns out though. The low needle should be set at about flush with the outer body to begin with. Work your way in by 1/8th turns to find the point where there is no bog and idles smoothly. Temeratures for the hyper should be betwwen 210-280F, this engine runs hotter than most.
